He has devoted a significant amount of his time to this cause because of his own Palestinian roots. Even though Dr. Saad Saad grew up in Kuwait, his parents moved there from Palestine. He has always cultivated that connection to his homeland in his personal life.
The first thing that Dr. Saad Saad did that really got him involved in medical missions with Palestine was a 2003 surgery that he led point on with a child victim from Palestine. The child had been flown to the United States because their injuries were so extensive. Even though they were stable, their quality of life had taken a severe nosedive. Dr. Saad Saad was one of the only pediatric surgeons that could help them.
Dr. Saad Saad sat down and developed a good plan to help the child. He conducted a seven-hour long surgery that would repair internal injuries and extensive abdominal wounds. It would be a success.
The work that Dr. Saad Saad did would impress the Palestine Children’s, Relief Fund. This organization had been the one to send the child to Dr. Saad Saad. They quickly offered him a slot as one of their relief doctors. In 2008, Dr. Saad Saad went on his first medical relief mission to Palestine.
It would not be his last one. He would eventually attend missions seven other times. This would be a major component of Dr. Saad Saad’s career. On his last relief mission in 2015, he received a very prestigious award from the president of Palestine. He was given the Gold Medal of Palestine to commemorate all of the efforts that he has been a part of while in the country.
He has also received several humanitarian awards to acknowledge the hard work that he has done while in the country. For Dr. Saad Saad, he looks at this work as a highlight in his career and something for which she is truly proud.
